Lansing P & DC Begins Surface Visibility Process
The Lansing P & DC is the first facility in the Greater Michigan District to install and begin utilizing this technology.
The surface visibility process is beginning in the Lansing P & DC. Mail Handler Terri Treleaven is an active part of the training and implementation of this process. The surface visibility
process will allow the USPS to track every tray of mail as it is transported through the system. Employees scan containers as they arrive and depart, as well as scan individual trays and tubs as they are loaded into containers.
Terri is working with Julia Gordon (In Plant Support), Bill Kay (Networks Specialist), Frank Chain (Bill's assistant), and Tim Park (In Plant Support). The current focus is on the job training for clerks and mail handlers. Classroom training was held in October. The process is implemented slowly, with expeditors now logging in trucks (similar to TIMES, but using a hand held
scanner), clerks scanning MTEL placards for Priority Racks and Michigan Racks, mail handlers scanning MTEL placards for both Gantry robots and any incoming equipment. The next step will be scanning trays and tubs as they are nested in the equipment.
